Gulf Research Program Video Remembers Deepwater Horizon

The video features some of the leaders who helped the nation respond to the event.

Remembering Deepwater Horizon, 10 Years Later

Ten years ago, the Gulf region faced the worst environmental disaster in US history. The event took lives and changed the region forever.

In the decade following the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, attention turned to offshore oil production and the risks it poses to the people who live and work in affected communities and to the environment.

The Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has released a video that features some of the leaders who helped the nation respond to the event, including US Coast Guard Admiral Thad W. Allen and National Academies President Marcia McNutt.
