Petronas Joins World Business Council for Sustainable Development

The Malaysian firm has become the newest member of the organization of companies, which carries the mission of accelerating the transition to a sustainable world by making more sustainable companies successful.

Petronas has become the newest member of the joined more than 200 companies as the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). 

The WBCSD, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a CEO-led organization of companies with a mission to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world by making more sustainable companies successful. 

Petronas, through its membership in WBCSD, said it hope to be able to shape insights and develop solutions to address the agenda of sustainable development goals, as well as build experiences in advancing its sustainability ambitions in collaboration with like-minded partners through WBCSD’s networking platform across a variety of sectors. 

The company also said it expects tobe able to contribute more to the global and national policy development through this strategic partnership with WBCSD and provide business leadership for sustainability in Malaysia as well as Southeast Asia. 

“At Petronas, we are mindful that we coexist in a larger world and we are progressing towards a low-carbon energy future," said Dzafri Sham Ahmad, vice president of group health, safety, security, and environment at Petronas. "We are committed to managing the impact of climate change by advancing operational discipline and capabilities as well as harnessing technological developments in driving a sustainable and cleaner energy future for generations to come."

He added that joining the WBCSD is the next step for Petronas to leverage collaboration, technology, and people to deliver energy sustainably to an expanding world population.
