The pace of change in the oil and gas industry has been notable as of late.

The industry is increasingly using digital technology jargon seamlessly along with the technical language of oil and gas. Dumb iron is getting smarter with new sensors. Time-series data that once sat miles deep in siloed spreadsheets is being unearthed and given new meaning through artificial intelligence. And thanks to the advent of the cloud, companies of all sizes can now leverage supercomputing for their biggest processing needs.

From 4-6 September in Aberdeen, many of the key people pushing these developments to the fore will be sharing the insights and decision strategies that will shape the industry well into the next decade. They will be meeting at the inaugural ENGenious Symposium & Exhibition, which was created to highlight the oil and gas industry’s most transformative technologies and developments.

Focus areas of the gathering will include: Automation and Control Systems, Data Analytics, Robotics, and Smart Communications. Discussions on these topics will reveal how digital tech is being leveraged across the oil and gas spectrum from the reservoir and wellhead all the way to downstream markets.

Matthias Heilmann, a co-chair of ENGenious and the president and chief executive officer of digital solutions at Baker Hughes, authored a recent article in JPT about how the event will cast a wide net in order to capture the best pathways to digital success.

“While the event will explore what innovation means for the onshore and offshore upstream oil and gas industry, it will embrace the learnings and experiences from a diverse range of industries,” he said. “Using an ecosystem approach, this will create an enlightening forum to encourage cross-pollination of ideas and information exchange.”

Speakers from BP, Shell, and Saudi Aramco represent just a handful of the world’s leading operating companies that are participating in the event. They will be joined by executives and technical experts from service companies and the emerging startups that are also helping usher in a new wave of digital technologies.
