Emerson To Contribute Software and Expertise to the Open Subsurface Data Universe Forum

The Open Group OSDU Forum aims to create a standard data platform on which members work collaboratively to enable secure, reliable, global access to all subsurface and well data.

Emerson will contribute reservoir-domain software and expertise to the development of the Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) forum, the technology consortium founded by The Open Group. Launched in 2018 by several leading oil and gas operators, the forum is developing a standard data platform —initially for the oil and gas industry — that will bring together exploration, development, and wells data.

There are currently more than 35 operators and suppliers actively participating in the OSDU forum, including Equinor and Shell as two of the founding members, and supplier organizations such as Bluware.

Emerson’s contribution is expected to improve the efficiency of reservoir modelers and reservoir engineers and accelerate digital innovation across reservoir workflows, on top of the OSDU platform.

Emerson’s subject matter experts will work on the OSDU forum reservoir domain project alongside other members to develop reservoir-domain data-management services that leverage industry standards such as RESQML, an automated data exchange standard used in subsurface workflows.

The company will connect its entire software portfolio to the OSDU data platform, allowing oil and gas operators to move data to and from the platform while enabling transformational workflows.

Emerson’s Geolog formation evaluation software suite is already connected to this platform, with additional solutions to be added in the future.

The Open Group is a global consortium of more than 750 technology and industry organizations that seek to achieve business objectives by developing open, vendor-neutral technology standards and certifications.
