US-based Excelerate Energy took delivery of its tenth floating storage regasification unit (FSRU), the Excelerate Sequoia, from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea.
Excelerate took delivery just days after gas-up and cool-down operations were performed at South Korea’s private LNG terminal, a step necessary to declare the carrier commercially ready to receive LNG cargoes.
The late June delivery of the Sequoia came 9 months after Excelerate and Maran Gas Maritime signed a 5-year bareboat charter agreement for it, during which time Excelerate will have the option to purchase the FSRU.
The vessel has a storage capacity of 173,400 m3 and is capable of operating as both an FSRU and a fully tradable LNG carrier.
The Sequoia joins Excelerate’s nine other FSRUs, all built by DSME.
Excelerate took delivery of the industry’s first FSRU in 2005, according to President and Managing Director Steven Kobos.
