Meet The Bubbleheads: Counting Fish
The Bubbleheads, a team of four deep-sea saturation divers, share the view from a bellman's perspective while working offshore.
The Bubbleheads is a team of four deep-sea saturation divers who will attempt to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, the second-largest ocean in the world, as they take part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge in December 2021 to raise money for the Wessex Cancer Trust. They’re taking on the challenge despite none of them having ever rowed before except for “Concept2 rowers in the gym.”
They describe their work on their website as “living at depths of 100 m+ for up to 28 days and on average 5 days away from the surface at any time (it’s quicker to get back from the moon), the life of a saturation diver requires peak physical condition and the mental strength of a warrior. In addition, saturation divers endure challenging subsea conditions, the emotional difficulty of being away from family and friends and dropping anything and everything to go to work, sometimes with as little as 24 hours’ notice.”
