Africa (Sub-Sahara)

  • Drilling began in the SL-5-11 block in the deepwater shelf of west Africa. The targeted depth is 4700 m in water depths of more than 2000 m. Lukoil Overseas (49%) is the operator in partnership with Oranto (30%) and PanAtlantic (21%).

  • Asia Pacific

  • Drilling began on an exploration well in Block G4/50 in the Gulf of Thailand. The planned depth is 2350 m targeting Miocene sandstones. The well is estimated to contain mean prospective recoverable resources of 30 million bbl of oil. Salamander Energy is the operator with a 100% interest.

  • Drilling has been completed on the Klalin-14 development well located in the West Papua region of Indonesia. The well encountered 81 ft of total net pay and tested production rates of 9.8 MMscf/D of natural gas and 220 B/D of condensate on a 24/64-in. choke from two zones. RH Petrogas has a 60% interest.

  • Drilling began on the TMT-56 development well at the Tanjung Miring Timur field in south Sumatra in Indonesia. The well will be drilled to a total depth of 1250 m. Goldwater TMT is the operator with a 100% interest.

  • Drilling began on the Cardiff-3 well onshore the Taranaki basin in New Zealand. The total planned depth is 4900 m targeting the Kapuni formation. TAG Oil is the operator with a 100% interest.

  • The Mt Kitty gas well was spudded in exploration permit 125 in the Amadeus basin in the Northern Territory, Australia. The planned total depth is 2000 m, and the well will evaluate the Heavitree formation. Santos is the operator (70%) in partnership with Central Petroleum (30%).

  • Oil was discovered at the Burruna-2 exploration well in the southern Cooper basin in South Australia. The well was drilled to a total depth of 1916 m. Net pay is 5.3 m and a drillstem test showed a rate of more than 750 B/D with no associated water. Senex Energy (80%) is the operator in partnership with Orca Energy (20%).

  • Canada

  • Drilling began on the Myrtle Basin 1 well in the McArthur River Mine in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. The well has a planned total depth of 800 m and will evaluate shallow hydrocarbon accumulations in the Barney Creek shale and Coxco Dolomite. Armour Energy is the operator with a 100% interest.

  • Oil was discovered at the EL-1112 well in the Bay du Nord prospect located northeast of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The well was drilled in approximately 1100 m of water. Statoil (65%) is the operator in partnership with Husky Energy (35%).

  • Latin America-Caribbean

  • Hydrocarbons were discovered in the Guainiz 1 well in the CPO-10 block in the San Carlos de Guaroa area of Meta Province in Colombia. Drilled to a total depth of 2993 m, the well reached a maximum production of 409 BOPD of 14.4 °API crude oil during testing. The well is wholly owned by Ecopetrol.

  • Oil was discovered at the Oso Pardo 1 exploration well located in the Middle Magdalena Valley of Colombia. The well encountered 88 ft of oil pay in Tertiary sandstones, 60 ft of oil pay in the Lisama sandstones, and 28 ft of oil pay within two separate Umir sandstones. Canacol Energy is the operator.

  • Middle East-North Africa

  • Gas and condensate were discovered by the Sofiya-2 exploration well in the Mehar block in Pakistan. Gas flowed at 18 MMcf/D and condensate flowed at 1,550 B/D. OMV Maurice Energy (75%) is the operator in partnership with Government Holding (5%), Ocean Pakistan (15%), and Zaver Petroleum (5%).

  • Gas condensate was discovered at the CYIIID5-S1 well in the Cauvery basin off the east coast of India. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5731 m with the primary objective of exploring Mesozoic-aged reservoirs. Preliminary evaluations indicate a gross column of 143 m of gas condensate. Reliance Industries (70%) is the operator in partnership with BP (30%).

  • Testing began on the Tawke-23 exploration well in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It encountered oil plays within a 930-m horizontal section in the main Cretaceous reservoir. The test program will focus on 10 fracture zones. DNO International (55%) is the operator in partnership with Genel Energy (25%) and the Kurdistan Regional Government (20%).

  • Northern Europe

  • Drilling began on the 6407/8-6 well in the Snilehorn prospect in the Norwegian Sea. The well has a planned total depth of 3200 m targeting oil and gas in the Jurassic Ile, Tilje, and Åre formations. Statoil (50%) is the operator in partnership with Faroe Petroleum (7.5%) and other partners.

  • Oil was discovered at the 6608/10-15 wildcat well located northeast of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea. Preliminary calculations estimated the size of the discovery to be in the range of 6 to 19 million bbl of oil. Statoil (63.95%) is the operator in partnership with Petoro (24.55%) and Eni (11.5%).

  • Russia-Caspian-Central Asia

  • Drilling began on the Doto exploration well in Kazakhstan. The prospect is estimated to contain approximately 22 million bbl of unrisked recoverable prospective oil resources in the Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic sequences. Tethys Petroleum is the operator.

  • South Asia-Indian Subcontinent

  • Gas flowed at a rate of 6.5 MMscf/D through a 0.39-in. choke during an isochronal production test at the Bhandut-3 well in India’s Cambay basin. The lean gas is composed of 98.9% hydrocarbons of which 94% is methane and 1.1% is inert gases. Oilex (40%) is the operator in partnership with Gujarat State Petroleum (60%)

  • USA

  • Gas was discovered at the Troubadour exploration well in the US Gulf of Mexico. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5947 m and encountered approximately 50 ft of natural gas pay from a high-quality Miocene reservoir. Noble Energy (60%) is the operator in partnership with W&T Offshore (20%) and Deep Gulf Energy (20%).
