The Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on Barrow Island off the Western Australia coast will include the world’s largest carbon capture and storage operation when it is complete. Chevron estimates the project will capture and inject 3.4–4 million Mtpa of CO2, which will equate to approximately 100 million metric tons over its 40-year life span, and will reduce Gorgon’s total greenhouse gas emissions by 40%.
