J. Roger Hite, SPE regional director for the Gulf Coast North America region, died 15 February. He was the founder and principal at Inwood Solutions. Hite was also the owner of Blackhorse Energy, and previously operated the Business Fundamentals Group. Earlier, he worked at Shell Oil in numerous roles, serving as engineering manager, manager of production technology, and director of production research, and retired from the company in 1999. A Distinguished Member of SPE, he received the SPE Management and Information award in 2008. He worked closely with the SPE Gulf Coast Section for many years, including as chairman during 2006–2007. He helped guide the SPE Digital Energy Conference and Exhibition from its formation and served as co-chair in 2008. Hite helped organize and chaired several workshops on digital energy topics in Houston and Brazil. He published many SPE papers on management topics, both in enhanced oil recovery and digital energy. He held a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University, and master's and doctorate degrees from Princeton, all in chemical engineering.
