Flow testing of the UK’s first horizontal shale gas well confirmed a rich reservoir of recoverable high-quality natural gas, according to operator Cuadrilla Resources. The well was drilled through the Bowland shale, 7,500 ft beneath the Preston New Road exploration site in Lancashire. Although only partially tested, gas flowed at a peak rate of more than 200,000 scf/D and a stable rate of 100,000 scf/D. Cuadrilla estimates potential initial flow range of 3–8 MMscf/D.
