Dean Rietz, SPE, was named CEO and chairman at Ryder Scott Petroleum Consultants. Rietz was elected to the board of directors in 2008, and served as executive vice president in 2012 and president in 2015. He has more than 30 years of industry experience. He joined Ryder Scott in 1995 and became head of the reservoir simulation group 3 years later. Rietz has expertise in all facets of simulation, including initial model design and conceptualization, model construction, history matching, calibration, and final project documentation.
Before joining Ryder Scott in 1995, Rietz taught in-house material-balance schools to engineers at Chevron and the ECLIPSE user course at Intera Petroleum Production Division. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston (UH) where he teaches an applied reservoir simulation graduate course. He is the instructor for the SPE short course “Reservoir Simulation for Practical Decision Making,” and was a 2016–2017 SPE Distinguished Lecturer. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas. Rietz holds a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma and an MS degree in petroleum engineering from UH.
Concurrent to Rietz’s appointment, former executive vice president Guale Ramirez, SPE, was elected president; managing senior vice presidents Miles Palke, SPE, and Tosin Famurewa, SPE, were elected to the board; and board members Larry Connor, SPE, and Herman Acuna, SPE, were promoted to executive vice president.
