OTC Names Winners of Spotlight on New Technology Awards-2018

The Offshore Technology Conference selected 15 technologies for its 2018 Spotlight on New Technology Awards. The annual awards program recognizes innovative technologies and showcases the latest advances in offshore exploration and production.

Awards recipients were chosen on the basis of the following criteria:

  • The technology must be less than 2 years old and offered to the marketplace less than 2 years before the award application date. If previously advertised at OTC, it must not have been displayed at more than one conference. The technology must be original and groundbreaking, and must not infringe on any known patents.
  • The technology must be proven, either through full-scale application or successful prototype testing.
  • The technology must be of broad interest and appeal for the industry.
  • The technology must provide significant benefits beyond those of existing technologies.

OTC also awarded two Spotlight on New Technology Small Business Awards for companies with fewer than 300 employees.

Aegion Coating Services

ACS HT-200 Subsea Insulation System
The ACS HT-200 is an ultrahigh-temperature subsea wet insulation system for pipelines, risers, field joints, and subsea equipment that experience operating temperatures up to 400°F. This end-to-end deepwater solution consists of an anticorrosion coating covered with an insulation layer and topped with a tough polypropylene exterior.

N-Type Gangway System
As the only motion-compensated gangway system of its kind in operation, the N-Type “Icemann” enables safe people transfer year-round in harsh winter conditions of as low as 18°F. The fully enclosed and insulated system is operational in sea states of up to 3.5-m significant wave height and certified under the winterization design code DNV-GL-OS-A201.

TerrAdapt Adaptive Drill Bit
Unlike conventional bits that are limited to a single depth-of-cut (DOC) control setting, the BHGE TerrAdapt adaptive drill bit autonomously adjusts DOC to mitigate stick/slip and expand the smooth drilling window with no surface interaction. Adaptive DOC-control elements automatically adjust the bit’s aggressiveness on the basis of the formation it is drilling.

DEEPFRAC Multistage Fracturing Service
The BHGE DEEPFRAC deepwater multistage fracturing service leverages tools and techniques perfected in unconventional plays to improve the efficiency and economics of offshore completions. Using DEEPFRAC ball-activated sleeves and patented BeadScreen flowback-control technology, the service simplifies operations, accelerates completion times, and enables rapid stimulation of more than 20 stages in a single trip.

The 9½-in. azimuthal lithodensity (ALD) logging-while-drilling (LWD) service from Halliburton Sperry Drilling is the industry’s first large-borehole LWD service capable of delivering azimuthal density, photoelectric, and ultrasonic caliper measurements to enhance reservoir understanding and reduce well time in borehole sizes ranging from 14½ to 17½ in.
