Shell started production from its Appomattox deepwater platform in the US Gulf of Mexico, approximately 80 miles off Louisiana, ahead of schedule and under budget. The field, in 7,200 ft of water, is the first commercial discovery brought into production in the Norphlet formation. Average peak production is estimated to reach 175,000 BOE/D. Shell is the operator, holding 79% of the project. CNOOC holds 21%.
