PF&C Summer Lecture Series Focuses on Floating Production Systems
The SPE Gulf Coast Section’s Project, Facilities, and Construction study group is hosting a series of lectures, “What Have We Learned About Host Selection in Deepwater GOM After 20 Years of Being Off the Shelf?,” focusing on floating production systems (FPSs) and the challenges faced by the industry when selecting and designing the optimum field development plan for deepwater assets.
As offshore discoveries go deeper and into new environments, producing oil and gas from these resources becomes a more complex challenge. Deepwater production requires a large portfolio of projects to be developed with FPSs. Many factors must be considered that influence the design, including the payload and performance requirements, the metocean and geotechnical environments, construction methodology, available facilities and equipment, installation methodology, and schedule requirements.
A series of six sessions have been selected to provide the attendee with an understanding of the factors and challenges that influence the selection and design of FPSs. A summary of the main characteristics and design considerations will be provided, including the pros and cons. Selected recent innovations and future challenges will be discussed. Lessons learned from recent projects regarding design, installation, and operation will also be discussed.
The sessions will be presented by industry-recognized experts from the oil company, contractor, and engineering communities, providing an introduction to FPSs for the engineer just starting in the industry, a refresher for the more seasoned individual, or a rich networking opportunity for those involved in this arena.
Each session is scheduled as a 1-hour presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A session and will take place at the Wood Group Mustang-Opus Building in Houston. For more information, visit www.spegcs.org/events.
Work Continues on Liza Unity FPSO
SBM Offshore began construction on the vessel following ExxonMobil’s sanction of the Liza Phase 2 development offshore Guyana in May. It is designed to produce 220,000 BOPD after it starts up in 2022.
Main Topsides Lifted Onto Leviathan Platform
One of the largest deepwater gas discoveries of the past decade moves closer to its expected startup at the end of the year, as 24,500 tonnes of topside units have been installed on the Leviathan platform offshore Israel. Operator Noble Energy expects to produce up to 1.2 Bcf/D from 4 subsea wells.
FPSO for Liza Phase 1 Arrives Offshore Guyana
Following a 42-day journey from Singapore, the Liza Destiny has arrived at the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, where it is expected to produce up to 120,000 gross boe/D from the ExxonMobil-operated deepwater project upon startup.
