Sencient’s open path gas detector combines enhanced laser diode spectroscopy technology with SimuGas daily auto testing to detect a range of hydrocarbons, including methane and ethylene. A transmitter generates laser light at a specifically selected wavelength for the target gas and projects it over an open area to a receiver. The receiver processes the light signal and calculates the gas concentration, as any target gas present in the open area causes a change in the light signal. The amplitude of the signal correlates to the gas concentration. By responding only to the target gas, the detector removes cross-interference and unwanted alarm from other hydrocarbon gases, oil mists, and plastic bags that may be present in an area.
