Globalstar’s GSP-1700 handheld satellite phone connects remote workers via the company’s mobile satellite services using Qualcomm-based code division multiple access technology. The company said that calls occur with no noticeable time delays on a network capable of transmitting a whisper with clarity. The GSP-2900 fixed phone system provides Internet connection in remote locations, allowing as many as five RJ-11 jacks (modular plugs) to be connected. The availability of express data on the company’s data plans provides data speeds of 28,000 bps (vs. standard speeds of 9,600 bps) for emails, file transfers, andbasic services.
