The Khankendi's initial voyage in open waters began the 6-week trial of the subsea construction vessel (SCV) that took place in the Caspian Sea. Maritime experts executed more than 120 different tests designed to evaluate everything from engine and propulsion performance to dynamic positioning, navigation systems, cabin acoustics, as well as offshore capabilities.

The SCV is back at the shipyard now for the finishing touches in preparation for the naming ceremony scheduled in early September. It will perform subsea construction activities on the Shah Deniz gas field off Azerbaijan for the next 10 years.

Production of first gas from Shah Deniz Stage 2 is expected next year.
