YP Happy Hour and Technical Paper Contest

YPs of Section 61, Lagos, Nigeria, organized an event held in February, combining a happy hour with a technical paper presentation contest. The event, organized at Hardley Suites, was attended by 48 participants from many companies, as well as members of the National Youth Service Corps. Jaja Adagogo, Section 61 chair, Chevron, delivered the opening remarks, in which he underscored the importance of the YPs’ mission and vision in line with SPE’s objectives. He called on YPs to get involved in SPE’s eMentoring program to aid in learning new skills and accelerating career growth. A technical presentation contest was held among participants. Four papers were presented during the event, in which Rita Esuru Okoroafor, Schlumberger, emerged as the winner. She talked about the value of decomposition in well test analysis.

The guest speaker, Joseph Nwakuew, ExxonMobil, talked about the need for YPs to be proficient in their skills. He stressed the importance of keeping oneself abreast of new developments via SPE online resources and shared tips. Further, participants broke into groups to finalize the year’s activity calendar. The YP committee plans to organize a Distinguished Lecturer Ambassador lecture, a YP workshop, and an away day for members.
