The SPE Bergen Section, Norway, conducted its first young professional (YP) activity alongside the annual SPE One Day Seminar in April. A YP workshop with the striking title “Don’t panic!—A Young Professional’s Guide to the Future” was organized as a part of the event. Approximately 100 people attended the YP Workshop, which featured a panel of four senior leaders from Statoil, Halliburton, Odfjell Drilling, and Petoro who were invited to talk about the future of oil industry.

The speakers noted that the Norwegian Continental Shelf still has more than 50 billion barrels yet to be produced and reassured attending YPs of their bright future in the energy industry. Workshop speakers also emphasized that YPs should strive to improve both their technical and softer skills. Try to find solutions and take charge of the future, instead of following the flow, speakers urged: “To fail to plan is to plan to fail.” A discussion and Q&A session followed.

The SPE Bergen YP program plans to organize member meetings and other events to provide a place for the future industry leaders to build network relations and socialize with their peers. For more information about the SPE Bergen YP program, visit http://bergen.spe.no.
