SPE Education Day Held at Mumbai

The young professional (YP) group of the SPE Bangalore Section held a student education day in conjunction with the Oil & Gas India Conference (OGIC) in Mumbai in January. More than 200 students from 12 area schools took part in the event, which was sponsored by Shell and ONGC. It was the second time the educational event has been held.

The students received a welcome kit, participated in technical sessions, and were given a tour of the OGIC exhibit area. Santanu Hati and Sudipto Sarkar, event chairperson and cochairperson, respectively, gave introductory remarks at the technical sessions. The students then heard from Behrooz Fattahi, 2010 SPE president; James McCallum, chief executive officer, Senergy; and John Hoppe, manager, Development Disciplines, Shell. Sumil Verma, Shell, gave an audio-visual presentation on the origin, discovery, and production of hydrocarbons; energy-industry careers; and the industry’s green initiatives. The interactive presentation was followed by a quiz.
