The SPE Egypt Section has responded to the SPE young professionals’ initiative by creating the Egyptian YEPP Section, a spectacular mix of male and female engineers from different specializations in the oil and gas industry.

The goal of the YEPP program is to give a hand to young petroleum professionals in Egypt to help develop their careers. To achieve this goal, members are working on establishing a communication network for young professionals. The Egypt YEPP Board has been marketing the YEPP concept during the SPE monthly meetings, through e-mails and brochures, and through a shared booth with SPE at the Intergas Conference and Exhibition. The group is trying to establish YEPP contact officers at all companies and petroleum engineering schools in the region.

The Egypt YEPP Section had sponsored several local and regional activities. One of the YEPP team members has taken on the responsibility of administering and enhancing the SPE Egypt Section website (egypt.spe.org). In February, YEPPs participated in an event organized by SPE Egypt in collaboration with Cairo U., 2006 SPE President Eve Sprunt attended and listened to presentations by YEPPs and members of the student chapter and had fruitful discussions with them.

On the regional level, an Egypt YEPP representative met with YEPP representatives from SPE in Kuwait and Libya to share experiences and help them establish local YEPP sections. The most important activity for Egypt YEPPs was in November during the SPE International Petroleum Technical Conference in Doha, which included a Middle East YEPP Council meeting and Education Day.
