The Sponsor Team for Young Petroleum Engineers Development (STYPED) publishes the STYPED Journal, an addendum to the SPE Italy Bulletin. The journal is the main means of communication between STYPED and its “audience” of young professionals and students, and it also reaches senior professionals as well. This publication was founded in 2002 and remains one of STYPED’s cornerstone activities.

Behind a colorful cover, showing different aspects of the oil and gas industry, the journal presents a summary of STYPED initiatives, feedback on recent events organized by the chapter, important discussion topics, and a number of technical contributions, with articles written by young professionals in the SPE Italy Section. Last, but not least, an entire page is dedicated to the sponsor companies that have made the publication and other activities possible. The technical section was added in 2003 after a poll of SPE members showed that a large number of young professionals were interested in sharing their knowledge and in learning more about issues significant for professional advancement.

To boost participation and to make the preparation of articles more rewarding, STYPED, with the sponsorship of EniTecnologie, created the “Best Paper Award 2006.” The competition is open to all students and young professionals working in an area related to the Italian oil and gas industry. Papers will be submitted to an award committee, and three paper finalists will be selected. To make this contest more visible to more senior members, the award ceremony will take place during the annual SPE Christmas Cheer in December 2006.
