Italy: Program Brings Young Professionals, Students Together

The first issue of TWA was dedicated to the “survivors”: the young oil and gas industry professionals who, in the last several years, have been in considerable decrease. It is clear that one of the main missions of YEPP sections all around the world is contacting as large a number of young professionals as possible to share SPE values.

SPE Italy’s Sponsor Team for Young Petroleum Engineers Development (STYPED) fulfils this mission by supporting various

activities such as the Young To Young program and social events. The Young To Young program brings together university students and SPE members. The format consists of a series of short speeches given by STYPED board representatives on SPE activities and SPE values, followed by open discussion. The goal is to create a direct link between students and young professionals by sharing experiences, expectations, and knowledge. Since September 2005, this program has been merged with SPE’s global Ambassador Lecturer program because of its common scope.

Social events generally take place before Christmas and during the summer. The informal and welcoming environment helps build relationships and connects people from different backgrounds. Not only are young SPE members invited but also those who have participated in the STYPED activities throughout the year.

The programs described, as well as all of the other STYPED activities, receive generous contribution and support from STYPED sponsors, including Baker Hughes, BJ Services, Eni, Halliburton, and Schlumberger.
