SPE Italy’s Sponsor Team for Young Petroleum Engineers Development (STYPED) supports and develops the personal and professional growth of young professionals in the Italian oil and gas business. We organize a number of activities and events, including continuing-education lectures by experienced professionals on technical subjects, and Creative Workshops, which are full-day, interactive meetings held in “inspiring places” on soft-skill subjects.
The Creative Workshops are different from activities previously organized by STYPED but have proved extremely useful and enjoyable. Experienced human-resources professionals guide a maximum of 25 participants through discussions, presentations, and role-playing on subjects such as team learning, self-motivation, and management styles. One of these workshops was held in June 2004 in a farmhouse in Cergallina, near Piacenza, focusing on “Communication and Teamwork.” Participants discussed several themes including how to listen, how to look for solutions, what behavior makes for good teamwork, how to communicate effectively, and the impact of behavior on communication styles.
A key ingredient of these workshops is the informal and welcoming environment, which improves personal relationships and connects people from different professional backgrounds.
